I’ve known Whitney since high school, and her family has been a support of my photography business from the very beginning. Whitney and Austin were actually one of the first couples I had the opportunity to photograph! I remember coming home from their first session with a newfound passion for serving couples.
Since then, I’ve watched their family grow with each new session and was SO excited when Whitney revealed that they were expecting their rainbow baby!
While this session was technically a couples session, I couldn’t help but squeeze in a few maternity photos as well.
Whitney + Austin wanted something a little creative for their rooftop photos. I went to trusty Google, found a recipe to make some non-toxic, natural paint powder, and we went for it!

Whitney and Austin told me they were down for something creative for their session. I suggested adding in something to make it more unique.
So we turned their Downtown Fresno couples session into a paint fight!
We didn’t want the paint to be the entire focus, so we decided to go with paint powder. There were quite a few options online, but I didn’t find any that were non-toxic and biodegradable. I decided to DIY it with the help of a few different blogs and lot of corn starch.
We didn’t have an opportunity to make the powder until the night before their session, so using the oven was a life-saver and I love how the colors turned out so pastel!
I found the best recipe for the paint powder on the A Beautiful Mess blog.
After we used up all the paint powder, we revisited a few of the poses from earlier in the session.
This rooftop in Downtown Fresno is one of my favorite local locations! The gorgeous city views, beautiful natural light, and neutral tones really make you pop!
Plus, it’s close to a lot of amazing Downtown Fresno restaurants, so it’s easy to turn it into a date or family night afterward.
