KC + Duncan’s Buena Vista Wedding in Fresno
KC + I first met in high school, so this Buena Vista wedding was extra special for me. We were both on the same colorguard team at our local high school in Fresno, CA and spent a lot of time together at rehearsals, football games, and band competitions. I remember chatting with KC about colleges sometime during my senior year because we were both thinking about moving out-of-state for college.
I’m so glad KC decided to move out of California because she probably wouldn’t have met Duncan if she hadn’t. I’m also glad that Dutch Bros is a thing, as KC + Duncan met while working at a Dutch Bros!
When KC asked me to be her wedding photographer, I felt so honored.
When my second shooter and I arrived, we immediately went to work capturing all the gorgeous details around the venue, which was just off Highway 41 leading into Fresno.
Afterward, we split up to get some getting ready moments + detail shots with KC + Duncan’s crew.
As a Fresno wedding photographer, I’ve noticed that getting ready moments for the girls tend to be more intimate, heart-felt, and joyous as they get to celebrate with one another. It also usually involves mimosas.
While getting ready moments for the guys tend to be more goofy, witty, and still joyous. It also usually involves beer.
Once the guys finished their photos, they were quickly hidden away so the girls could come out and do their photos.
KC’s parents came out for a quick photo before the girls went back inside when the guests started to arrive.
It’s so helpful on a wedding day to have your photographer take some of the family or wedding portraits before the ceremony.
Even if you choose not to do a First Look (like KC + Duncan didn’t), you can still take your wedding party and some immediate family photos ahead of time so you’ll have more time together to celebrate after the ceremony.
Immediately after the ceremony, KC and Duncan had their signature drinks passed around (the KC-rita + the Good Ol Duncan) to have a toast together. It was such a creative and beautiful moment, and so unique to them as a couple!
It allowed an opportunity for them to slow down and spend a few moments with friends + family before rushing off to photograph the next event.
With some creative angles, we were able to use the side of the venue as a beautiful spot for the bride + groom portraits! Directly to the right of KC + Duncan was the parking lot, but I bet you wouldn’t be able to tell from looking at these photos.
One of the great things about this local Central Valley wedding venue was that there was space available to hold the reception indoors and outdoors. KC and Duncan were able to spend time with guests in both areas without it feeling too cramped.
One of my favorite parts of a wedding is the moment when the DJ announces that it’s time to open the dance floor to all the guests. There’s something special about everyone rushing to the dance floor to celebrate – it gets me a little choked up every time.
The tears quickly turn to laughter when crowd favorites like “Yeah!” by Usher or “Bye Bye Bye” by NYNC get everybody our of their seats.
