Storytime: Caitlyn was living in Long Beach doing her internship for her Doctorate of Psychology. Justin came down to see her for a mini vacation. Justin knew he wanted to make their proposal something Caitlyn would enjoy. He drew a big message in the sand with the ring in the center. He got down on one knee and asked Caitlyn if she would spend the rest of time with him. Needless to say, she said yes!
Caitlyn originally found me on Instagram, and has asked me for some venue recommendations. I did a little research and sent some along to her. We reconnected sometime in the near future when she asked me to be their wedding photographer. Then it was my time to say yes!
I felt an instant connection with Caitlyn + Justin. Their story was so beautiful to me! Caitlyn’s joy is absolutely infectious, and Justin’s love for her is palpable in his every interaction with her. It was an absbolute honor to get to take their engagement photos in such a gorgeous location.

Caitlyn and Justin chose the Uvas Reservoir for their San Jose engagement photos because of all the special memories they have made together in the park. All the days spent exploring and evenings spent stargazing in Justin’s Trans-Am made this park one of their favorite spots in California.
My first recommendation when couples ask where to take their engagement photos is to pick a significant location for the two of you. It could be where you first met, had your first date, went on a special vacation, or even just a spot where you’ve spent a lot of time together.
As a California wedding photographer, I can absolutely help you choose a location for your engagement session! California is filled with so many gorgeous beaches, forests, lakes, foothills, and cities.
My second recommendation is to consider how your lifestyles and how you two enjoy spending your time together. For example, if you absolutely love hiking and camping, we could head to Yosemite or Shaver Lake to capture you two frolicking through the mountains. If you enjoy watching movies on the couch and snacking on your favorite foods together, then let’s do an at-home lifestyle session! Your engagement photos should absolutely represent your story and your love for one another.
The Uvas Reservoir is located in the foothills below the Santa Cruz Mountains west of the City of Morgan Hill. If you pull up a map, it’s about halfway between the cities of San Jose and Santa Cruz. I hadn’t heard of this location before, and now its one of my new favorites!
Remember the Trans-Am I mentioned earlier? Caitlyn + Justin asked for a few photos showing off the sleek car. I found out that the Trans-Am series was extra special to his parents, because they also own one. Justin’s parents had even taken some photos by their Trans-Am when they were Justin’s age!
We decided to recreate the same photo that Justin’s parents took a couple decades ago.
