The first thing I thought after I delivered India’s Shaver Lake senior photos was “Wow! These are the senior photos I wish I had.”
I paid a friend of mine $50 for my senior session back in 2014. She took journalism with me and was the only photographer I knew at the time. There’s quite a few photos that I still love and look back fondly at. But know that they (and I) look a *lot* different now compared to these Shaver Lake senior photos.
The world of photography has changed so much in just 8 years. On one hand, it’s a thrill to be a part of that. It can also be challenging to keep up! There’s all the new gear, trends, and the rules are constantly changing.
But the one thing that hasn’t really changed since 2014 about photography?
The reason behind the photos.
Senior sessions are an incredibly opportunity to celebrate all the hard work that you or your loved one put into obtaining that degree. It’s a chance to appreciate such a big milestone, and look back fondly on such a big transition in your life. Senior sessions can be anything you want them to be. You can wear a cap + gown, pop some champagne, or just keep it simple like India did.
India’s session was extra special to me because her mother happens to be one of my favorite coworkers. You should hear all the absolute joy + pride coming from her whenever she speaks about India. It’s absolutely wonderful. Then I got to meet India, and knew what the hype was all about! We instantly clicked over shared music interests – gotta love that acoustic folk – and had a shared vision over how her photos would turn out.
So play some Lord Huron or The Lumineers and take a look through some of my favorites from India’s senior session.
After spending the firs portion of her session in a gorgeous meadow, we decided to change locations halfway through India’s session. I always recommend changing locations during your session if you’re looking to add some variety to your full gallery.
India chose to take photos along the lake itself before we went to the woods along the lake. I love that each location she chose gave such a different vibe to the look of her senior photos!

P.S. Some of my favorite places to find absolutely beautiful dresses for senior sessions are Baltic Born and Fehrnvi!
