Avila Beach Maternity Photos

Couple poses at Avila Beach for their maternity photos

Avila Beach is the perfect location for a gorgeous sunset coastal maternity session!

I had the honor of documenting this precious season of life for Erika + Racelis as they await the arrival of their little boy. They chose their Avila Beach maternity session because they wanted to commemorate the memories spent together along the Central Coast. They came up for a day trip, and ended the day with an intimate Adventure Session.

I love Avila Beach because of the gorgeous cliffsides and lengthy sandy shoreline. Unfortunately, a windstorm prevented us from utilizing the cliffsides without the fear of getting blown off. We ended up finding a trail nearby that was just as beautiful.

I was so impressed by how prepared Erika + Racelis were for their session!

Erika came along with several outfit changes, and her hair + make-up were professionally styled. If you’re considering having your hair + make-up done professionally for your session, let me know! I have a solid list of professional stylists that I know + trust, and would love to recommend. Some of my local Fresno-based favorites are Sierra Jane Studios, Goddess Hair Studio, and Diana Rebman.

We spent 15 minutes along this trail before heading to Avila Beach for the rest of their maternity photos. Avila is my favorite Central Coast beach for family and maternity sessions because it’s so easily accessible, has a variety of stunning views, and isn’t as busy as hotspots like Pismo Beach.

Erica’s white dress change absolutely blew me away! Literally because it was soooooo windy along the coast that day. The material held up well, and it looked ethereal against the backdrop of the cloudy beach. I’m always a huge fan when my clients decide to dress up for their sessions!

Here are some of my favorite dress shop recommendations for your next session:

Baltic Born

FEHRNVI

Lulu’s

ASOS

I also tried out something new for their maternity photos: double exposure!

Double exposure is a photography technique that layers two different exposures onto a single image, combining two photographs into one. It can create a surreal effect that conveys a deeper meaning or symbolism for the subject.

I really enjoyed it, so it’s definitely something I’d like to start putting into more of my clients’ galleries. I’m always looking for new ways to continue my education and improve my client experience so I can keep serving my clients as well as possible!

Erika + Racelis opted to go with my Adventure Session – which included all the travel and twice as many photos as my Classic Session package. I call it an Adventure Session because it feels like one! We can take our time exploring a location, and going to several different spots. These sessions are perfect for a date night, proposal, or fun family trip!
