Clovis Newborn Photos at Home

Bringing a new baby home is one of life’s biggest transitions. Everything feels slower, quieter, and more tender. The Thornton family invited me to document this beautiful beginning with their baby girl. Their Clovis newborn photos home session was the perfect blend of softness, light, and love. These are the types of sessions I love most—ones that feel like an exhale.

Why Newborn Photos Matter

There’s so much that happens in those first few weeks. Your baby changes daily. Their tiny features grow, their movements become less curled, and their eyes slowly begin to open to the world. In what feels like an instant, the newborn phase starts to fade.

That’s why newborn photos are so important. They preserve what memory alone cannot. They hold onto the way your baby fits in your arms. The way your partner looks at them. The way you feel both exhausted and completely in love.

But these sessions are not just about documenting your baby. They’re also about documenting your connection. Newborn photography is a celebration of your family and your strength. Whether you are navigating your first child or welcoming a sibling, the emotions are just as powerful.

My Own Story

I understand how it feels to be in the thick of it. When my son was born, I was completely in love with him, but also completely drained. I was healing physically, hadn’t slept more than a few hours in days., and didn’t recognize my body or feel particularly confident in how I looked.

I debated skipping the session.

But we moved forward with it, even though I felt puffy and tired. I put on a soft, flowy dress that made me feel a little more like myself. My husband and I snuggled close, holding our new baby in the quiet. We didn’t pose perfectly or try too hard. We just existed in those tender early days.

And now? Those images are my favorite photos of us.

They captured something deeper than appearance. They captured love, strength, and the miracle of becoming a family. That’s what I aim to give every client I photograph. A way to see themselves clearly, even when they feel a little lost in the fog of new parenthood.

How We Made the Thornton’s Clovis Newborn Photos Home Session Easy and Beautiful

Newborn sessions should not be stressful. That’s why I’ve designed my experience to be simple and seamless, especially for families in the postpartum season.

This Clovis newborn photos home session was a beautiful example of how easy it can be. We used one room with lovely natural light. That one space gave us everything we needed to create a full, emotive gallery.

You do not need to clean your entire house. You don’t need a Pinterest-perfect nursery. As long as we have a window and a little bit of calm, we’re set. I’ll guide you on what to clear or adjust, and I bring everything else we need.

And if being at home doesn’t feel right for your family, I offer studio sessions as well. The studio I use has a clean, minimal setup with soft textures and gentle light. It’s a quiet space where you can relax and focus on your baby without any of the pressure of preparing your house.

The Client Closet

Many of my clients worry about what to wear for newborn sessions. I want you to know that you don’t need to buy anything or stress about sizing. I provide a carefully curated client closet with dresses that are designed to work beautifully for maternity, postpartum, and nursing needs.

All of my dresses are chosen to be bump-friendly and forgiving in all the right places. They feature soft, camera-friendly textures in colors that photograph well across a range of skin tones.

More than anything, I want you to feel beautiful and comfortable. These dresses are designed to do just that.

I also offer styling support for partners and siblings. I can help you build a palette that feels cohesive and gentle, send you links for affordable pieces, or work with what you already own. My goal is to remove as many decisions as possible so you can just enjoy the experience.

Clovis Newborn Photos Home: Using One Room to Tell a Full Story

For the Thorntons, we stayed in one softly lit bedroom. They had a light comforter, a small window, and neutral walls. That was all we needed. Their baby stayed cozy in their arms or swaddled in a basket for close-up portraits. She wore a soft white wrap and a pale bow. Nothing elaborate. Just timeless, heartfelt imagery.

We also used my hand-painted backdrop for a few portraits. It added a clean, classic element to the gallery while still feeling soft and organic.

Whether in a bedroom, a nursery, or a corner of your living room, Clovis newborn photos home can be just as beautiful as a studio session. Often more so. Your home holds memories already. It’s where you rock your baby to sleep, where you whisper lullabies, where you begin this new journey.

The Pace of a Newborn Session

Newborn sessions move at a slower pace. I follow your baby’s cues and give you space to settle in. If your little one needs to feed, we pause. If they fuss, we settle. The whole experience is flexible and calm.

There’s no pressure to smile perfectly or get your baby to sleep on cue. Many of the most touching images come from real, unposed moments. A yawn. A gentle forehead kiss. A baby stretching their fingers while snuggled against your chest.

The Thornton family embodied this softness. They moved gently, responded to their baby with calm, and soaked up every second of the experience. It was beautiful to witness.

You Don’t Need to Be “Ready”

Many of my clients tell me they almost didn’t schedule photos. They felt too tired, too overwhelmed, too unsure of how they looked. But every one of them is so glad they did.

The postpartum season can be vulnerable. You are in the middle of learning everything from scratch while running on little sleep. A few things I wish all clients knew:

There’s no need to wait until everything feels perfect.
You don’t have to change your body or fit into a certain size.
The perfect outfit is not a requirement.
Complete rest is rare in this season, and that’s okay.
All that truly matters is that you show up. That alone is more than enough.

I will meet you where you are, both emotionally and physically. My job is to create an environment that feels supportive, flexible, and kind. I want you to feel seen in these photos, not overly posed or pressured.

Thank you to the Thornton family for inviting me in during this sacred season. Your daughter is so deeply loved, and it was an honor to document the beginning of her story. You held her with so much tenderness and grace. Your calm presence and connection made this session incredibly special.

I wish you gentle days ahead, filled with quiet snuggles, deep sleep (soon, hopefully), and the joy of watching your daughter grow. It was a privilege to create these photos for your family.

Kind Words

“We were fortunate enough to help out Ashley during a photoshoot as she was being mentored by a newborn photographer. It was such a great experience for us! Ashley was engaging, attentive, and professional…We were worried that our 3 week old would be a little unpredictable or that could be a bit awkward as we don’t do photoshoots often, but Ashley was so warm and welcoming and made us feel so comfortable. Our baby got a little fussy halfway through, and Ashley was so patient and accommodating and helped us to soothe her.

Seeing the pictures brought me to tears.

They were the most perfect pictures of our baby girl and our new little family! The pictures truly felt like us and captured all of our love for girl. Ashley captured this sweet and new season with a newborn beautifully. I 1000% recommend Ashley for your newborn and family photos!!!!” – The Thorntons
